Playing Stud Online Poker With Cyndy Violette
Stud High requires you to be attentive to having a good starting hand, understanding the pot odds, reading your opponents, and finding the best spot to steal the bring in or ante. This example was against Cyndy Violette, one of the most well-known female poker players.
The above mentioned game was $2/$4 Stud High with $0,40 ante and $4,00 chips on bring in, $2,40 after the bring in and $4,00 on the Ante. The player with $4,80 limped in with $10,000, Cyndy Violette (from now on Cyndy) called with a speculative hand of hearts.

Hand: Dolly Parton - My Interpretation
Cyndy may have been playing the dealer during the sprint to cash. She had a near perfect hand but it seems she may also have hit the flop. There was a lot going on at the table. Minimum bet was $0 50; maximum bet $1,00. There was one player behind me who bet $2,50. I had the flush draw, so I called.
8 Q 8 was the Flop
This was very dangerous for me as the board was unsuited, Simons holding As-8h on the board and unless the Ace or King would pair up, there was a potential straight and/or flush on the board. If the Ace and King did pair up, the hand became unsuited to slightly favor my hand. The flop almost turned up a monster hand, which was very dangerous for me.
However, the 8 on board didn't help. The three other players raised. They were probably expecting an 8 on the turn which wouldn't have helped my situation. Overall, this hand had not been very well received. I probably should have bet Either that I had pocket Kings or Aces.
The Turn card was the 8h. The odds of me having a monster hand were slim to none. I had a 35% chance to hit the bottom end with a straight. The flop was likely one of the following, considering I had seen 3 other low-paired or face cards on the board.

Q-8h
To get any value from the Q-8h, I had to drag it around the board. This was difficult with an 8-hand. I didn't have a lot of outs at first, but I did have a 9 draw and a T-9-come-draw.
result sgp Additionally, I didn't have a straight possibility so the equity I was receiving wasn't very high. If I hit the Q-8h, I was only canceling out an slightly better hand; 10-8, or 9-9 which was not even a straight possibility.
Nonetheless, I didn’t really have a hand so I checked.
The SB immediately placed $1,100.
This was Hawkins style hands. If you don't hit any, you need to call to get the flop. As he had already checked, there was no reason for me to believe he was wrong.
I estimated that I had a 35% chance to hit the Q-8h. I was always a pusher and overbet, so I thought: "If he checks, what difference does this have to my hand?"
He then showed Q-8h!
I felt pushed in by him at this point. The board was terrifying and I didn’t want it. However, Q-8h didn't compare to my starting hand. I knew that I needed to decide without additional information.
I could still get some value out of the hand by calling another $1,100 bet on the river. I assumed that the guy would have won the Q-8h if he had been really successful (which would be very funny).
I called.
The turn was at Q-8h.
I think I need to win a coin turn or take the rake. I think if I make a continuation and he hits on the side, then I am ahead.
I bet $2,200.
He thinks for a moment and folds.
